About the Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park is a major tourist destination, but cold snowy winters keep the park quiet from mid-fall through late spring. Before visiting, find out what the weather will be like, and make sure the areas are open. Park Headquarters is open Monday through Friday yearround. The Apgar Visitor Center is open every day from May through October but is only open weekends the remainder of the year. Logan Pass Visitor Center and St. Mary Visitor Center open from late spring through mid-fall.
Camping reservations can be made for St. Mary, Fish Creek and Apgar campgrounds. Reservations may be made up to a year in advance. There are many other campsites, including some at Apgar, that are first-come, first-served. There is a fee for camping. Some sites require pre-payments. Others can be paid for by obtaining an envelope from a ranger and placing the fee in a tube at the campsite. For winter camping, the Apgar picnic area and the St. Mary Campground are available for no fee. Cross-country skiing is permitted, too.
